Systom is written by me, Tom Jenkins. I am based in California. I’m fascinated by the intersection of technology, business, and society. This is my outlet to share my opinions, analysis, and questions I am investigating.
I’ve spent over 15 years in the technology, media, and telecom industries in a variety of roles including engineering, corporate strategy, product development, operational transformation, go-to-market strategy, and supply chain.
I started a turnkey outsourced IT services company for small and medium sized clients in Southern California when I was 15 years old, and have had a passion for solving problems with technology ever since. Lately, I’ve been focused on technology strategy across a variety of areas of AT&T. Key focus areas these days are ML/AI/Generative AI, operational efficiency, and risk management.
I hold a BS in Management Information Systems (MIS) with a focus on entrepreneurship and product design from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

I write an independent newsletter and other content on technology, business, and related topics. My goal is to be a truly independent analyst to the best of my ability, and I have a commitment to an ethical standard for the content published.
To this end, I do not take any form of payment to write about a company or product. I seek to avoid conflicts of interest to the best of my ability, and always disclose if I have one.
I am not paid by any company for any opinion I post. I do not do advertisements or sponsorships. I do not use affiliate links for anything I recommend.
The information contained in material I publish was obtained from publicly available sources unless explicitly stated.
Potential conflicts of interests, and how I address them:
I am currently employed (AT&T) and bound to a confidentiality obligation with my employer. My views and opinions are my own and are not those of my employer and its affiliates. The experiences from my current and previous employers have helped shape my professional outlook and there are obvious insights gained throughout my career, but have no impact on my opinions.
I may hold individual stocks in companies including my current employer. I actively seek to ensure that my opinions do not have bias towards or against any particular company. I am not providing any financial, economic, legal, accounting, or tax advice or recommendations.
While I uphold a high standard to my personal integrity and the integrity of my content, I will inevitably make mistakes. I will always strive to correct any mistakes quickly and publicly.
